Will gardeners one day replace underground miners? While plants are currently used to restore contaminated soil, some phytoremediation methods go even further. Through phytoextraction—the use of accumulator plants to absorb and concentrate heavy metals in their aboveground parts—researchers at INERIS have succeeded in harvesting zinc and cadmium from plants.
