L’Express presents a gallery of portraits featuring around a hundred figures considered to be inspiring. It’s part of our history. In November 1953, our newspaper published its first “Top 100” list. Men (98 out of 100, no less…) selected because they were charting the course for the future and were thus considered the “driving forces” of France. On the honor roll, many familiar names: Georges Braque, Albert Camus, Gaston Gallimard… In 2018, our list prioritizes exemplary qualities over fame. And it includes as many women as men.
