Chemical Ecology

Chemical Ecology offers a holistic view of the emerging research areas in this discipline through a wide variety of approaches. It examines complex systems in a changing world through a wide range of model organisms, ranging from microorganisms to mammals, including humans. It covers a wide variety of environments, from the tropics to the polar regions, and explores the role of chemical signaling that enables living organisms to communicate with individuals of the same species or different species, as well as with their environment. In a context of global change where maintaining biodiversity poses a real challenge, this book provides an understanding of the structure and functioning of ecosystems. The researchers who contributed to this book—biologists, ecologists, biochemists, chemists, and biostatisticians—study terrestrial, aquatic, marine, and freshwater environments.
