Chemical Ecology

The book presents comparative perspectives on the field of chemical ecology—both current and future—offered by scientists from a wide variety of disciplines. The scientists contributing to this book—biologists, ecologists, biochemists, chemists, and biostatisticians—are interested in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems and study life forms ranging from microorganisms to mammals, including humans, living in areas from the tropics to the polar regions. Here, they share their analyses of the current state of chemical ecology and its future prospects. The examples presented here involve complex, multispecies communities and cover a wide range of both organisms and the types of molecules that mediate interactions between them. Until now, no book has provided a comprehensive scientific overview of such a wide range of examples. This book showcases a diverse array of the most advanced aspects of this rapidly expanding field.
